Don’t let a residential, mental health clinic change our neighborhood forever.

SENIOR CARE TO MENTAL HEALTH, DRUG AND ALCOHOL FACILITY:

We are not necessarily opposing the mission of care, but we are opposing the location and the intensity of this specific plan. A residential neighborhood is not the appropriate setting for a high-traffic clinical institution.

While the facility has historically operated under a Shelter Care permit, the new owners are seeking a revised Special Use Permit (SUP) to transform the site into a high-intensity residential mental health and addiction treatment program.

There is a major legal and practical difference between Shelter Care and a medical facility, and we believe the proposed use far exceeds what our local infrastructure can handle. Specifically, our community is ill-equipped for this shift for several reasons:

  • Infrastructure and Sewage: Our existing infrastructure was built for a rural, residential environment and was not designed to support the heavy utility demands of a commercial medical operation.
  • Narrow Roads and Traffic: Our neighborhood streets are narrow and currently support residential vehicles, school buses, and pedestrians. The proposed facility would increase traffic and use our back roads as bypasses, creating safety concerns for residents.

If this revision is approved, we can expect our neighborhood to change forever. We must use our collective voice to ensure our agricultural roots and rural lifestyle are preserved.

Why We Must Unite and Oppose

Incompatible Land Use

Increased Traffic & Noise

Increased Traffic & Noise

A "Mental Health Facility" is legally distinct from a "Nursing or Rest Home." The County has stated this use is not allowed under current zoning.

Unlike a quiet retirement home, a detox facility requires frequent medical deliveries, 24/7 staff shifts, and emergency vehicle arrivals.

Our Goal

Our opposition isn't to the mission of care itself, but to this specific location and the intensity of the proposed plan. A quiet residential neighborhood is simply the wrong setting for a high-traffic clinical institution. We are calling on the city to deny the SUP revision and uphold the integrity of our existing zoning laws.

By signing this petition, you help demonstrate the scale of our community’s concern regarding density and safety. Numbers matter—adding your name transforms individual concerns into a powerful, collective message that county officials cannot ignore.
